Principal’s Message

Welcome back to school amazing FAMILIES!! Two months to go!

Can you believe that we are already in the month of April? At school, this is one of the most important times of the school year.  For our lower grades (TK-2), we are busy with end of year assessments and EXPO plans. In our upper grades we are preparing our students for the CAASPP, the state standardized test that informs all stakeholders how our school is progressing academically. Our upper grades are also preparing for their EXPO. This year, our teachers voted to have the second EXPO split between the upper grade levels and lower grade levels. Please take note of the dates: TK-3rd May 25th @ 5:30 pm (food begins at 4:30) and 4th-6th June 1st @5:30 pm (food begins at 4:30).  We think this will allow parents, teachers and students to more fully enjoy the EXPO experience without having to be rushed to attend different sibling’s presentations. Please do let us know how you feel about this change also. Finally, we are collecting Re-Enrollment packets, certain grades are being released by week so be sure to check your child’s backpack every Tuesday! Your child will not be enrolled without the packet and all paperwork filled out properly.

I would also like to give you an update on our most recent meeting with the SUHSD board.  Three weeks ago the board voted to Conditionally Renew our Charter.  This means that we are renewed but under certain conditions.  While this isn’t the ideal situation, it still indicates that we are in fact renewed. The conditions that the board put forth were to have extra time to fully analyze our Renewal to ensure that they fully understand who we are and our role in their district.  The whole board voted in favor of this condition and they will be making a vote again on April 10th to fully renew or keep it conditional. WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BE PRESENT AT THIS MEETING! This is the FINAL meeting to represent our school and even speak to the SUHSD board about why you feel our school should exist and be here.  Please come out and support on April 10th at 6:00pm at the SUHSD Office on 5th avenue.

At our last Parent Meeting on April 5th, we were blessed with a performance by the after school Dance Club led by Ms. Cybele Pena and we also talked about how we can prepare our students for the CAASPP exam.  We gave out parent handbooks as well as fliers of how to prepare for the test. We have attached them here for your review.  We are also running various CAASPP Campaigns to ensure that our kiddos feel supported, intelligent and prepared to do their best.

We have also begun working with Hugo Martinez (a parent of 3 of our students here at Hawking 1) to begin to video our meetings so that parents can access the information from anywhere. Stay tuned for an update on how to access the videos!

Thank you for your continued support & commitment to believing in the potential of  Charter Schools!
